Learn more about your local renewable energy project

This is your online community hub, where you can ask questions and give us feedback about the project.

Waubra Wind Farm has been operational since 2009 and was once ACCIONA Energía’s largest wind farm in Australia.

Located 35 km north-west of Ballarat in Victoria, on both sides of the Sunraysia Highway, you'll find 128 wind turbines capable of producing 192 megawatts of electricity. This is enough to power 138,000 homes.

Since the project became operational, ACCIONA Energía has created a direct total community investment of approximately $10 million.

All wind farms operate under planning permission from the Victorian Planning Minister. You can read more about our approach in the document library.

Supporting Local Community

Since the programs were launched in 2009, ACCIONA Energía has awarded more than $1.4 million to community groups, sporting clubs, non for profits, and schools in Waubra and the local area through our Small Grants, Scholarship and Community Benefit Fund.

Community Benefit Fund

Established in 2008, valued at approximately $100,000 annually. The Waubra Wind Farm Community Fund Inc. is administered by a group of 15 community organisations from the local area, with funds being used in support of their projects, as well as the broader community.

The Fund has made significant contributions to the Waubra community, funding essential projects for the Waubra CFA, Waubra Recreation Reserve, Waubra Cemetery and ongoing projects with Pyrenees Shire focused on power, lighting and water upgrades across town.

Small Grants Program

Each year, ACCIONA Energía invites small grant applications from local community groups and organisations who wish to contribute to the sustainable development of the communities in which we operate. Our focus is on supporting local initiatives that contribute to health, education, sustainability, conservation, and cultural development.

In 2023, more than $26,000 was awarded to 9 community groups and non for profit organisations in Waubra and the local area for an exciting range of projects and events.

Scholarship Program

ACCIONA Energía is also proud to run an annual sponsorship program that supports local students wishing to undertake tertiary education. Each year, we are proud to provide a one-time scholarship of $5,000, with a preference given to those studying engineering, science or agricultural based courses.
