Waubra Wind Farm celebrates 17th year of small grant and scholarship program

27 May 2025

Now in its 17th year, the Waubra Wind Farm Small Grants and Scholarship Program continues to support and empower the local community, having distributed more than $375,000 in funding since its launch. The initiative reflects ACCIONA Energía’s strong and ongoing investment in the local community. This year, 7 local organisations and two university students have been selected to receive over $38,000 in funding, supporting a range of initiatives that benefit the community.

To celebrate this year’s grant recipients, we hosted a celebratory morning tea at The Springs Hotel in Waubra last week. The event served as a chance to recognise the achievements of successful applicants and reinforce the close-knit relationship between the wind farm and the surrounding community.

Among the 2025 grant recipients is the Cyril Callister Foundation, recognised for its inspiring Happy Little Vegemites in Schools initiative. Named after Cyril Callister, the brilliant Australian chemist and food technologist behind the creation of the iconic Vegemite, the project brings his legacy to life in classrooms across the region. More than just a history lesson, the program uses the story of Vegemite to spark conversations about perseverance, innovation, and resilience. Students explore key themes such as modern Australian history, scientific and technological advancement, entrepreneurship, sustainability, and the journey of taking a product from concept to market. By connecting past achievements with future possibilities, the project helps build essential life skills and wellbeing in young learners.

Erin Mulquiny, Community Benefits Lead at ACCIONA Energía, expressed her enthusiasm for the latest round of projects and scholarships. She congratulated the 2025 recipients and emphasised the program’s influence on local groups and young people.

“Every year, we witness firsthand how these grants empower local organisations and individuals to drive positive change,” Mulquiny said. “This program isn't just about funding, it's about fostering strong connections, supporting important local initiatives, and ensuring that our community continues to thrive. We’re proud to be part of that journey.”

Applications for the next round of the Small Grants and Scholarship Program will open in January 2026.
