Tall Tree Wind Farm: planning progress & next steps

10 July 2025

As you may have noticed, the project has hit some important milestones recently. We wanted to summarise for you where we’ve got to so far and what you can expect next. We do recognise that the planning process can be complicated to follow – to help you with this, we’ve pooled together here the resources we have developed to date.

Planning process information

The below links will take you to materials stepping out the planning and environmental approvals process.

  • Online video session from our planning information session – back in October 2024 we ran an online webinar focused on planning, detailing the process and stages involved.
  • Slide deck from this session – which also shows the process.
  • Approvals flyer – a helpful one pager illustrating the acts and stages of approvals.

Tall Tree Wind Farm planning application progress to date

  • 6 June 2025: We referred the project to Victorian State Government – the first formal stage in the planning application process.
  • 20 June 2025: Project documentation that we submitted to the Victorian State Government was published on their planning portal.

Next steps

Planning Approval Process (EE Act 1978)

  • The Victorian Planning Minister will make a decision if the project is required to complete an Environment Effects Statement (detailed information on this process is available here).
  • We expect then to hear back from Victorian government in the next few months with their decision on the approval pathway for this project. Once this is known, we will let you know straight away. Our flyer tells you more about what is likely to happen after that decision.

Environmental Approval Process (EPBC Act 1999)

  • Concurrently, the Tall Tree Wind Farm project will shortly be referred to the Federal Government for environmental review. The assessment and approval is undertaken by the Victorian Government and applies federal environmental law to the project.
  • The information we submit to the Federal Government once validated is then published on the Federal Environment Department’s portal for public viewing. We will notify you when this happens.
  • There is a window of 10 business days when the public can comment on the environmental documentation.
The planning and environmental review and approvals processes run parallel to each other, with both governments working together on assessment – in this case, the Victorian government will report to Federal Government. Both must approve the project

before it can proceed.

While we are doing our best to distil this information into manageable formats for you, if there are any ways you think we can make this process clearer or easier to understand, we welcome your suggestions.
