Notification of Meteorological Mast Application

30 January 2026

We would like to advise that in December 2025 we lodged a planning permit application for the Meteorological Monitoring Mast (met mast) located in Meredith-Shelford Road. This met mast has been in place since February 2023 subject to a planning exemption for temporary structures; the permit being sought would formalise permission for it to remain until commencement of project construction.

Golden Plains Shire Council has advised that the application will be subject to Public Notice

Notification commences on 2 February 2026 and concludes on 16 February 2026

The Public Notice process is managed by council and will include:

  • Written notification to properties within a 1 km radius of the site boundary; and
  • The erection of signage on the subject land.

What is a Met Mast

The Meteorological Monitoring Mast (met mast) is a tall, thin lattice anemometer tower holding instruments that measure wind speed, wind direction and other relevant atmospheric conditions. The tower and instruments, which together are a total of 123.4m in height, is secured by guy wires in three orientations, with each guy wire orientation having anchor footings. All footings and the base of the tower are protected by stock-proof fencing. For aviation safety and visibility the mast has the top third marked in alternating colour bands, guy wires marked, an aviation safety beacon at the top, and ground attachment points in a contrasting colour to the surrounding ground.
