Mortlake South Wind Farm sparks another round of small grant funding to power up the community

Marking its 7th consecutive year, the program has delivered over $300,000 in grants and shared benefits funding since its inception, strengthening ACCIONA Energía’s commitment to local development.

To celebrate the recipients, ACCIONA Energía hosted a morning tea at Macs Hotel in Mortlake last week, providing an opportunity to congratulate the successful applicants and highlight the strong ties between the wind farm and the community.

Among this year's funded organisations is Victoria State Emergency Service Mortlake Unit. Their grant will go towards a much-needed upgrade to their outdoor lighting, creating a safer environment for volunteers as they navigate the premises during emergencies and training exercises. Currently, the inadequate lighting poses a safety hazard for volunteers and visitors, especially during nighttime operations and emergency callouts.

Another grant recipient for 2025 is Neil Porter Legacy, who are focused on making career education a priority with a locally focused and action-based approach in the south-west of Victoria. Their grant will support them to deliver a Trades Expo for Mortlake and Hawkesdale Year 7 & 8 students on 15 May 2025. This program will bring up to 15 local trades to the event who will each demonstrate building an object, which the students then must replicate on their own.

ACCIONA Energía’s Community Benefits Lead, Erin Mulquiny, was excited to see the unveiling of this year’s small grant projects and scholarship recipients. Extending heartfelt congratulations to the 2025 grant recipients, she highlighted the program’s ongoing impact on local organisations and students.

Mulquiny further remarked, “It's exciting to see the lasting impact of the Mortlake South Wind Farm Small Grants and Scholarship Program on our community. Every year, we witness firsthand how these grants empower local organisations and individuals to drive positive change. This program isn't just about funding, it's about fostering strong connections, supporting important local initiatives, and ensuring that our community continues to thrive. We’re proud to be part of that journey.”

The Mortlake South Wind Farm Small Grants and Scholarship Program will open applications for its next round in January 2026.
