ACCIONA Energía Welcomes SWIS Transmission Plan

18 September 2025

The State Government has released its South West Interconnected System (SWIS) Transmission Plan, an essential step toward enabling large-scale renewable energy projects like the Bellwether Wind Farm and achieving Western Australia’s Net Zero emissions target by 2050.

With State-owned coal generation set to retire by 2030, the existing transmission network lacks the capacity to meet growing renewable energy demand. This plan signals a proactive response, unlocking new opportunities for clean energy development across the region.

Key highlights include proposed locations and construction timelines for new transmission lines and terminal stations. Notably, a new terminal station near Darkan could provide additional grid connection options for Bellwether Wind Farm.
