Community Information Sessions update

14 March 2024

Thanks to all the community members who came to the information sessions hosted in Teesdale, Meredith and Lethbridge between the 2nd and 6th of March.

Nearly 200 members of the community came to these initial sessions and we’ve received dozens of questions asking about a broad range of issues.

Our team are collating these questions and preparing an update that will be posted here on the Community Hub in early April. Some of these questions are specific enough to require their own answer and we’ll be posting these to the Community Hub as well. We will answer every question we receive but do ask if you can please be patient while we collect these answers for you – we do need time in many cases to get technical input to the response.

Some community members whom we spoke to at the information sessions, or who wrote to us after the event, said they were surprised that this was the first they’d heard of the project. We did want to highlight where we are in the process of developing this project, and our position in terms of information sharing and transparency.

These sessions represented the first time the project has been communicated to the community at large. This is the first of many times the community will hear about the project and have the opportunity to provide feedback. We always host information sessions well before any development application is submitted to the Planning Department and any formal consultation begins, so that community members can be made aware of the project and understand how they can get involved in the process both directly with us or via the department.

Prior to the information sessions our engineers and development teams have been assembling the project. This includes speaking with potential turbine hosts, conducting wind monitoring assessments, carrying out preliminary assessments to understand the local environment as well as speaking with nearby neighbours, Traditional Owners, council and major stakeholders such as the Lethbridge airport. It’s only now that we have enough early project information and data collated to show that the proposed project is technically viable. And it’s at this point that we are able to communicate the project to the wider public.

In response to requests for a clearer view of the project in relation to where you live, we have posted a live, interactive map on our Community Hub, which provides a detailed overview of the project area, key project components and the option to pin comments and feedback.

We will also be developing an update for the community on possible timelines for the project’s assessment process (dates will be indicative as delays can and often do happen). This process can take between 18 months and two years to complete, giving ample opportunity to provide feedback and explore design changes.

We will be providing you with information on how you can convey your supporting or objection to the project both to us as well as via other channels throughout the consultation process.

Please look out for further updates, in particular the publication of our responses to your questions in early April – but feel free to reach out in the meantime via the contact details in the right hand column.
